St. Thomas Knights of Columbus Council #7810

Four words that govern the purpose and direction of every member in the Knights of Columbus organization worldwide are: (Charity, Unity, Fraternity, Patriotism)

Founded in 1892 by a 29 yr old parish priest, Fr. Michael McGivney, in the basement of St. Mary's Church, in New Haven, Connecticut. Currently the largest lay organization of the Roman Catholic Church with over 2.3 million members, praised by popes, presidents and other world leaders for their support of the Church, evangelization, Catholic education, civic involvement, help to all in need and an opportunity for all Catholic gentlemen to join the personal, spiritual, family and social benefits of this order.

The St. Thomas K. of C. Council #7810, established many years ago, was without a charter for some years. Re-established in May 2000, it is proud to enter the new millennium with the K. of C. order which has been called "the strong right arm of the Church". It includes the parishes of St. Thomas, Underhill, and St. Mary, Cambridge.

Commitment to the purposes of the Knights of Columbus listed above have been expressed by the St. Thomas Council #7810 through these activities: (many parish stewardship activities not listed)

  • Sponsor the Annual K. of C. Essay Contest for catholic students graduating from 8th and 12 grades.
  • Sell Christmas cards, "Keep Christ in Christmas"to assist needy families at St. Thomas & St. Mary's parishes during the Thanksgiving and Christmas holiday times.
  • Sponsor the Vocation Awareness poster contest for both parishes by contributing money toward the prizes.
  • Participate in the State Tootsie Roll Drive to assist physically and mentally challenged people in Vermont. This support goes to the James O'Heagan Camp which is used by some of our parishioners.
  • Hold a local K. of C. Free Throw Basketball Contest in February which is opened to all boys and girls 8 through 14 years of age. We also hold the District Free Throw Contest in March where the winners advances to the State Free Throw Contest.
  • Purchase Rosaries for First Communion children each year at both parishes.
  • Hold an Annual St. Patrick's Day Corned Beef & Cabbage Dinner at St. Thomas Parish Hall where proceeds are used to purchased Catechism books for all Confirmation students.
  • Coordinate the Annual St. Thomas Parish Picnic in September for all our parishioners..
  • Sponsor a Annual Art Show for the many talented artists in this area in September.
  • Sponsor a 5K Run for Fun event at St. Thomas parking lot.
  • Participate in the State Charity Raffle which raises state and local money for charities.
  • Sell the "Entertainment Coupon Book" to raise money for charities and activities.
  • Volunteer for helping at parish funeral dinners and for special parish maintenance and repair projects.
  • Support the church's needs and community by holding a number of Pancake breakfasts throughout the year at a fee of a donation.
  • Sponsor an Annual Memorial Day event, "Let's Go Fishing Clinic" at Mills Riverside Park pond in Jericho.

Recognized in excellence through volunteering in Community, Youth, Church, Council, and Family.
