Confirmation Sponsor

Who may be a sponsor?
  • A sponsor must be a fully initaited Catholic, meaing someone who has celebrated their Baptism, Eucharist and Confirmation.

  • They must not be bound by any Church penalty.

  • A parent may not be a sponsor for their own child.


    Some practical guidelines for selecting a sponsor
  • A sponsor should be someone who tries to be a model of how a person of faith lives in today's world. They should lead a life in harmony with the faith and the role to be undertaken.

  • A sponsor should have a willingness and capacity to engage in the Confirmation process as a means of enhancing their own growth as a Christian adult.

  • A sponsor should have a positive and comfortable relationship with the candidate.

  • Ideally a sponsor should be someone who either lives in the area, or is able to travel to the area when necessary, so that they may be actively involved throughout the Confirmation process.
